LAHORE: (Tuesday, December 11, 2012): The international conference on calligraphy entitled Sarir-e Khama continued on the second day on 11th of December 2012 at the Senate Hall, Old Campus, University of the Punjab Lahore. There were three sessions on a specific theme under which, speakers presented their papers.

Principal of the College Professor Dr. Rahat Naveed Masud presided over all the three sessions while each session has its separate Chairperson. The first session theme was ‘Principles and Philosophy of Islamic Arts'. This session was chaired by Lt. Ge. (Retd.) Khalid Maqbool while the chief guest was Dr. Mujahid Kamran, the Vice Chancellor of the University of the Punjab, Lahore. Mr. Raza Shah Kazmi, a scholar from England talked on ‘Metaphysics, Aesthetic Beauty and Unity in Islam' and related the aesthetic rules in understanding the concept of Tauheed. Renowned architect and authors of various books, Mr. Kamil Khan Mumtaz presented his paper on ‘Traditional Calligraphy & Modern Art'.

Later, the audience put on questions to the speakers while the chairperson also shared his views with the audience. Then the second session under the theme of ‘Historical Perspective' started under the chair of Gen. (Retd.) Humayun Khan Bangash, started after refreshment. Speaker Prof. Dr. Mazhar Moeen presented his thoughts on ‘Arab Script in the Muslim World' while the second speaker of this session, Dr. M. Khusrev Shubasi from Turkey spoke on ‘Calligrapher Ottoman Sultans and Their Contribution in the Aesthetic Improvement Process in Calligraphy'. The third speaker Mr. Kazim Khyrasani presented his paper on ‘Calligraphy from Beginning to Qajar Period' after which a question answer session was held, and the chairperson shared his thoughts.

This session was followed by a formal lunch. The third and the last session commenced after lunch for which Dr. Shaukat Mahmud. Ist speaker Mr. Khalid Javed Yousafi presented his paper on ‘Journey of Calligraphy to Pakistan' while Mr. Khurshid Gohar Qalam presented his views on ‘The Evolution of Nasta'liq Script from Mir Ali Tabrezi to Abdul Majid Perveen Raqam' while the third speaker Mr. Merajul Islam read his paper on entitled ‘Sacred Hands: Quran Written by Muhammad B. Fahl of Dewal, and Mehdi Ali Khan of Kashmir'. In the end, the audience put on questions in the question answer session while the chairperson commented on the session. This session was followed by refreshment and then a Fashion Show based on, and related to the theme of Calligraphy Conference, was presented by the Textile Department of the College at Gosha-e Behzad-o Mani.
