Professional development of the faculty members of the institutes of higher learning is a fundamental requirement, it plays pivotal role for effective teaching/learning and research process. As per directions of the LID-HEC to its MT-FPDP fellows (Master Trainers) to organize short term training courses in their universities, the first one week training course for young faculty members of University of the Punjab was organized on 18-22 Oct, 2011. Thirty young faculty members participated in this training program, which was comprised of two core modules: Communication skills and Competent English Language Usage Essentials (CELUE) . This training provided the in-house opportunity to the Punjab University faculty to improve their communication skills, along with the skills in, effective English language usage in academic and research activity. The participants applauded the efforts of LID-HEC for organizing such workshops and demanded that it should continue with other useful training modules in future. In this context the 2nd one week in-service faculty training program has been planned for strengthening the professional competence and skills of the young faculty members of University of the Punjab. Thirty faculty members at the level of Lecturers and Assistant Professors will be selected from the departments, institutes, colleges and centers of the Punjab University for this training program. This time “Education as a Profession” and “Assessment and Evaluation” have been included as training modules, which will provide a good opportunity to the selected candidates for their professional development. For effective teaching it is mandatory to realize the professional ethics, moralities, civic responsibilities and to learn the importance of efficient planning and professional grooming. Similarly the role of competitive skills in assessment and evaluation of the students cannot be denied for a good teacher.

To strengthen the capability of the participants for effective assessment and evaluation of their students
