PU CEMB organized 2-day International Conference on health sciences (ICHS-2023)


Minister Health Punjab, Prof. Dr. Javed Akram inaugurated two-day International Conference on Trends and Challenges in Health Sciences at Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology on 1st March, 2023. Chairperson Punjab Higher Education Commission Prof Dr Shahid Munir, Director CEMB, Prof Dr. Kausar Malik, faculty members and over 180 scientists from US, UK, Taiwan, Japan as well as from different prestigious institutes of Pakistan were present on the occasion.

Director CEMB, Prof Dr. Kausar Malik, in her welcome address, said that CEMB has always created opportunities for our researchers to collaborate with foreign scientists and CEMB researchers are humbly contributing for mankind by developing products like the stem cells based treatments for numerous pathological conditions such as wound healing including burns and diabetic wounds; ocular defects, cartilage defects such as osteoarthritis, spine injuries, liver fibrosis and diabetes. She further added that CEMB has developed methods for production of various recombinant therapeutic proteins and biosimilars such as Filgrastim, Oprelvekin, and Insulin. CEMB has also developed methods for indigenous production of high quality Taq Polymerase. She stressed upon need of developing commercializable Health biotech products via cost effective innovative methods to strengthen the economy of our country.

Chief guest of the event, Prof. Dr. Javed Akram, Health minister Government of Punjab, said that CEMB stands forefront of other life sciences departments in Molecular Biology research. Researchers at CEMB are working for welfare of common man. He applauded the efforts of scientists and staff of CEMB for working hard and developing innovative biotech products. He appreciated the productive idea of Dr. Kausar Malik to provide a platform for scientists to present their research.

On this occasion, the Guest of Honor, Prof Dr Shahid Munir, Chairperson Punjab Higher Education Commission, applauded the progress made by CEMB researchers in the field of stem cells’ therapeutics and genetic diseases especially vision impairment, deafness, and intellectual disability disorders. Inaugural session ended at distribution of shields to the honorable guests by Director CEMB, Prof Dr Kausar Malik.

During the six sessions in the two-day conference, chaired by Prof. Dr. Ihtesham ul Haq, Prof. Dr. Tayyab Hussnain, Prof Dr Hirohito Yamaguchi, Prof Dr Muy Teck Teh, Dr Farrukh Kamal, the researchers from United States, Taiwan, South Korea, United Kingdom, China, Switzerland and from all over Pakistan gave their talks and shared their research experiences.

Conference was concluded by Chairman, Pakistan Science Foundation, Prof. Dr. Shahid Baig, on March 2, 2023. Director CEMB Prof Dr Kausar Malik, eminent scientist from US, Japan, Taiwan, faculty members and over 100 scientists from different prestigious institutes of Pakistan were present on the occasion.
Guest of Honor Prof Dr Shahid Baig, Chairman Pakistan Science Foundation, on this occasion applauded the progress made by CEMB in Health Sciences and said that CEMB has always been at forefront in field of Molecular Biology.
Director CEMB, Dr. Kausar Malik thanked Chief guest Prof Dr Shahid Baig and eminent scientists for joining the concluding session. In poster competition, among the 35 presenters, Noor Fatima from Panjwani Centre ICCBS, University of Karachi won the first position; Mubashra Inam from Kinnaird College for women and Sana Khawer from KIBGE Univ. of Karachi won second and third positions respectively. Concluding session ended at distribution of shields to the participants and organizers by Director CEMB, Prof Dr Kausar Malik and Chairman Pakistan Science Foundation Prof Dr Shahid Baig.
