Awareness to help treat mental illnesses: PU VC
LAHORE: (Friday, October 10, 2025): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali said that along with physical health, mental health should also be taken care of and creating awareness on mental health issues is the need of the hour for proper treatment of mental illnesses. He was leading an awareness walk organized by the PU Center for Clinical Psychology (CCP) as part of an awareness campaign on mental health. In-charge Dr Humaira Naz, faculty members and students participated enthusiastically in the walk from the CCP to VC office here on Friday. In his address, PU VC Prof Dr Muhammad Ali said that economic hardship, domestic disputes, floods and other factors are leading to an increase in mental illnesses, and the Center for Clinical Psychology’s initiative on the awareness program to address this issue is commendable. He said that there is no harm in getting tested before cousin marriage. He said that seeking psychological help is not a weakness, but a sign of strength. Dr Humaira Naz, while thanking the VC and the participants, said that camps were organized at 10 different locations of PU during the mental health awareness campaign. She said that the aim of these camps is to raise awareness about mental health and provide education and initial screening facilities to the community members. She said that the students participated enthusiastically in this program and played their role under their professional training and community outreach. On this occasion, the participants appreciated the efforts of the CCP and called such measures indispensable for creating a mentally healthy and informed society.
