September 30, 2025 - A delegation from the Department of Plant Pathology (DPP), University of the Punjab, Lahore, participated in a seminar on “Management of MRL and Aflatoxin in Rice,” organized by the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sheikhupura. The session brought together key stakeholders from research, trade, and regulatory bodies, including Dr. Mubarak (TDAP), Mr. Haroon Ghani (PW & QCP), Dr. Abdullah Niaz (Pesticide Reference Lab), REAP representatives, and Dr. Muhammad Ijaz (Rice Research Institute). Speakers discussed Pakistan’s rice production, approximately 6 million metric tons on 60–65 lakh acres, generating $3.4 billion in exports and addressed crucial concerns such as pesticide residues, aflatoxin contamination, and compliance with EU export standards (4 ppb vs Pakistan’s 30 ppb). The seminar emphasized adopting best practices, including avoiding banned pesticides, ensuring proper crop maturity and drying, and observing pre-harvest intervals. It concluded with a shared commitment to awareness campaigns, capacity building, and enhanced monitoring to protect Pakistan’s rice exports and bolster global competitiveness. ![]() Tweet Follow @pu_lhr_official |
