Third session of the ‘Corrosion Technical Series’ organized by Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering (IMME)


Third session of the ‘Corrosion Technical Series’ organized by Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering (IMME), University of the Punjab, Lahore in collaboration with The Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) Pakistan Chapter was held on 26th October, 2022 at Lecture Room of IMME.
In the welcome address the Engr. Shafqat Ali, Chair, AMPP Pakistan Section, brief the participants about the objective of the Corrosion Technical Series and also introduce the speaker Imran Chaudhry, Senior Manager Operation of MAS Associates (Pvt.) Ltd. The presentation was titled ‘Basic Principle of Cathodic Protetion Pipeline Design’. Mr. Imran briefly explained the steps involved in design of the CP system, supported with case studies and field photographs at various stages of the project: starting from field data collection, arranging the field data in proper format, formulas used for calculating different parameters and criteria for equipment selection. This was of interest to the participants who took part actively in interactive question-answer session.
Liaquat Raza, Member At-large AMPP Pakistan also participated in the session, he appreciated the efforts of IMME for arranging technical talks of corrosion professionals who shared their knowledge and life experience with the undergraduate students and young corrosion engineers. He advised to students to learn the new techniques and concentrate on acquiring knowledge with emphasis on revolutionary techniques like simulation and machine learning. He stressed that to progress further in this fild they should avail the free memebership being offered by AMPP to the students.
In the concluding remarks Prof. Dr. Mohsin Ali Raza, Director, IMME thanked the speaker Imran Chaudhry for taking time from their busy schedule to delivered a great presentation. He further thanked to Shafqat Ali and Liaquat Raza for participating in the session and their suggestions/guidance to the young engineers to progress in their professional objectives. He also appreciated the efforts of Ameeq Farooq, Lecture, IMME and Secretary, AMPP Pakistan Section for successfully arranging the Corrosion Technical Series and establishing liasoin between the institute and corrosion professionals/companies. He appreciated the efforts of AMPP Pakistan Chapter team and welcomed them to continue such activities for corrosion awareness.
