Islam gives respect, rights to women: PU VC


LAHORE: (Friday, March 08, 2019): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad has said that Islam gives maximum respect to the women and we are directed to give women their rights which have been ensured in our religion. He was addressing a rally organized by PU Department of Gender Studies in connection with World Women’s Day outside VC office here on Friday. Department of Gender Studies in-charge Dr Raana Malik, faculty members and a large number of students participated in the rally.

The participants were holding placards and banners highlighting women’s importance and role in society and demanding their rights. Addressing the participants of the rally, Prof Niaz Ahmad said that no society could progress without participation of woman. He said that other religions had also preached to give rights to women but unfortunately we were not acting upon those teachings. He said that we must behave women with politeness and the person who did not give respect to women was actually illiterate. He said that women were rapidly progressing in all the fields in Pakistani society. He said that we must educate women for the development of our country. A women’s gala in collaboration with government departments and civil society organizations was also organized in the lawns of the department. Different stalls including food items, women entrepreneurship projects, handicrafts, jewelry, cottage industry items etc were set up.
