PU archaeology department chairman, students attend int’l moot

LAHORE: (Tuesday, January 10, 2012): Punjab University Department of Archaeology Chairman Dr Farzand Masih headed a delegation of six students and participated in international conference on “Archaeology and Cultural Heritage in Pakistan and Adjacent Areas,” convened by American Institute of Pakistan Studies. Delegates from a number of universities, museums, departments and USA, Afghanistan, India, Canada and Pakistan participated. The conference was inaugurated by the US Embassy followed by academic sessions.

Representing the PU, Dr Farzand contributed his research paper on the recent explorations and excavations in Cholistan. The participants were shown the slides and particularly of an Indus seal with two pictographs. The seal has its distinctive characteristics and variant in style from Harappan seal discovered from the principles cities of Harappa and Mohenjodaro. The students got an opportunity to have interaction with the delegates and exchange views on the cultural development and museology. The students learnt from the senior delegates about the cultural traits of different regions of the world.
