Two PUCIT faculty members complete PhD, join college
LAHORE: (Sunday, June 03, 2012): Fulbright scholars Dr. Imran Farid Khan and Dr. Mehvish Irfan Poshni have joined Punjab University College of Information Technology (PUCIT). Both earned their MS and PhD degrees from Columbia University with high honors, have several international journal publications, and have given invited talks in Topological Graph Theory - an emerging area of Theoretical Computer Science. Dr. Khan and Dr. Poshni have over 10 years of combined industry experience that will prove extremely valuable for the students of the college. Dr Poshni is the first female PhD faculty member in the college. Dr. Faisal Aslam has also become a part of PUCIT’s faculty. He is a HEC scholar with a PhD from the University of Freiburg, Germany. After completing his doctoral studies, he joined LUMS and taught there till joining PUCIT. He has 14 international publications and rich industry experience. Dr. Aslam has also supervised several Master and Bachelor level theses at the University of Freiburg. PUCIT Principal Prof. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar stated that the addition of these academics has increased the number of PhD teachers to an aggregate of 11. Since Dr. Sarwar joined PUCIT, the college has seen a phenomenal rise in well-qualified PhD faculty from a total of one to 11. PUCIT has become the institution of choice for undergraduate education in the general area of IT. The addition of these scholars will help enhance the quality of PUCIT’s MPhil and PhD programs. He also said that, currently, 22 college faculty members are pursuing doctoral degrees, both locally and abroad, including 12 at PUCIT. Dr. Sarwar believes that Dr. Poshni will also act as a role model for the female teachers at the college, who form about 40% of the total faculty. Tweet Follow @pu_lhr_official |
