Lahore, September 24, 2026: Reflecting the high-quality academic and research activities being pursued at the undergraduate level, research emerging from a BS Final Year Project (FYP) on an AI-based Food Analyzer has been accepted for publication in Nutrients, a well-established international peer-reviewed journal in nutrition and dietetics.
The research paper, titled “Developing a Machine Learning–Based System for Nutrient Profiling of Pakistani Cuisine,” applies machine learning to the nutrient profiling of Pakistani foods. The work demonstrates how undergraduate education can be integrated with research, innovation, artificial intelligence, and interdisciplinary problem-solving, enabling students to transform their Final Year Project work into internationally publishable research. The paper was accepted on September 24, 2026.
The quality of the publication venue further strengthens the significance of the achievement. Nutrients is currently ranked Q1 in Nutrition and Dietetics, with a 2025 Impact Factor of 5.8 and CiteScore of 10.2, and is indexed in major international databases including Web of Science (SCIE), Scopus, PubMed and MEDLINE. Developed through faculty–student collaboration under the supervision of Dr. Muhammad Farooq and Dr. Shuja ur Rehman Baig, the work illustrates how undergraduate Final Year Projects can serve as a platform for high-quality research and international academic collaboration, connecting computing and artificial intelligence with nutrition and health informatics.
The achievement reflects a broader academic approach in which undergraduate students are encouraged to move beyond conventional project development toward research-led innovation, interdisciplinary engagement, international collaboration and publication in high-value scholarly venues.
