PU CSAS organizes seminar


LAHORE: (Friday, May 13, 2022): Punjab University Centre for South Asian Studies organized a seminar on “Baluchistan – Hostile and Competing Interests of Neighbors / Region; Battlefield of Proxies”. On this occasion, Director CSAS Prof Dr Umbreen Javaid, Department of Political Science Associate Professor Dr Rehana Saeed Hashmi, faculty members and MPhil/PhD scholars were present.  In her address, Dr Rehana shed light on the topic and provided with in-depth introduction of Baluchistan and its geo-political importance, as a subject to International Politics. She discussed in detail the strategic significance of Baluchistan and Gawadar Port in relevance to major and regional players like China, Russia, India and United States. She said that the involvement and interest of China in Baluchistan had contributed in other powers strategic concerns. It unveiled some external and internal competing interests within the region, which are challenging the state writ and security in Baluchistan, she added.
