Global cooperation needed to address climate change, gender inequality, VC

LAHORE: (Thursday, May 7, 2026): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Muhammad Ali stated that coordinated and interdisciplinary global cooperation is essential to address challenges such as climate change, health issues, and gender inequality. He was addressing at an international conference titled “Lifestyle Challenges for Health, Gender and Climate Sustainability”, organized by Punjab University Institute of Social and Cultural Studies, in collaboration with the World University Association for Community Development, Universitas Airlangga, Universitas Sumatra Utara Indonesia and the Sustainable Social Development Organization Pakistan. On this occasion, Dean Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Universitas Airlangga Indonesia Dr. Muhammad Muttaqien, WUACD representative Prof Dr. Muhammad Azizur Rahman, Dr. Meutia Nauli, MPA Uzma Kardar, Secretary Women Development Department, Punjab Saman Rai, Director of the ISCS Prof Dr. Farhan Navid Yousaf, along with national and international education experts, researchers, policymakers, faculty members, and students were present. In his address, PU VC Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali described the conference as an important effort to promote international academic cooperation. He said that organizing such events is essential for addressing social issues and appreciated the organizers for holding the conference on such an important topic. Uzma Kardar assured participants that the government would continue to play an active role in addressing environmental issues and promoting sustainable solutions. Prof. Dr. Farhan Naveed Yousaf emphasized that joint and research-based strategies are indispensable for tackling current global challenges. The speakers discussed global challenges related to health, gender equality, climate change, and sustainable development, along with their possible solutions. Various academic sessions were held during the conference in which researchers from Pakistan and other countries presented papers on topics including climate resilience, environmental justice, mental health, the impact of misinformation, indigenous knowledge, technological innovation, and sustainable development. The participants stressed the importance of international cooperation, inclusive policy making, and incorporating local and traditional knowledge into development frameworks for sustainable progress.
