PU IAP organized a seminar entitled "Depression from the perspective of Islamic Psychology and Psychopathology"


Institute of Applied Psychology organized a seminar entitled “Depression from the perspective of Islamic Psychology and Psychopathology” on 14th September, 2022 to shed light on the Islamic teachings regarding Psychological health with a focus on Depression. The seminar was chaired by Prof. Dr. Rafia Rafique, Director Institute of Applied Psychology. The resource person for the seminar was Dr. Arshad Mahmood, a practicing Clinical Psychologist and President of Heartland Professional Services in Ontario, Canada. Dr. Rafia started the seminar by highlighting the alarming surge in suicide among young adults due to depression. Dr. Arshad furthered this by sharing the Islamic perspective and that Islam offers a behavioral code that can be highly beneficial in developing healthy coping mechanisms and adaptive strategies in order to deal with stressful and hard life events. The seminar was concluded with a healthy Question, Answer session by students and faculty members of the Institute of Applied Psychology and Certificate and Shield were presented to the resource person.
