PU HCBF organizes seminar on Microfinance awareness


LAHORE: (Thursday, September 27, 2018): Punjab University Hailey College of Banking and Finance’s Principal Prof. Dr. Mubbsher Munawar Khan has said that microfinance is one of the most effective tools to combat poverty in underdeveloped countries of the world. He was addressing a seminar on microfinance awareness at the college’s auditorium in collaboration with State Bank of Pakistan, Lahore and Apna Microfinance Bank Limited. SBP’s Assistant Chief Manager Mr Mudassar Ali Khan and Mr. Ali Atta were the speakers. The SBP officials, in their detailed presentation, highlighted the untapped areas of microfinance. They explained in detail the initiatives taken by the SBP to accelerate the growth rate of microfinance facilities utilization for economic development of Pakistan. They also explained in detail the measures being taken for reinforcing the regulatory framework aimed at accomplishing the targets.
Speaking at the occasion, Prof. Dr. Mubbsher, appreciated the efforts of the SBP in creating awareness amongst the public. He noted that effective use of microfinance facilities could enhance entrepreneurial opportunities which would ultimately reduce the pressure on the employment sectors. He advised the students to gear up for setting up their own businesses by making full use of this opportunity offered by the banks and microfinance institutions. He also emphasized on the female students to exploit such opportunities for enhancing their empowerment.
The participants of the Seminar appreciated the efforts of the college management and the principal for making their value addition through such interactive professional advancement sessions.
