LAHORE: (Monday, March 11, 2019): The Web of Science Conference was held here at Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology in collaboration with Advancements in Life Sciences (journal) and Congress of Molecular Biology. The theme of the Conference was “International Scholarly Publishing from Pakistan: Framework for Fast-Paced Progress”. Renowned scientist Professor Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad inaugurated the event. CEMB Directo Dr. Tayyab Husnain, Prof. Dr. Idrees Ahmad Nasir, foreign delegate from Clarivate Analytics, along with participants from more than 100 national universities and journals were present on the occasion.

Addressing the conference, CEMB Director Dr. Tayyab Husnain said that the idea behind this conference was to provide a solid platform for scientists, researchers and journal editors to discuss the advance approaches in academic publishing. He further said that it was the time that we should focus on methods and tools that academic publishers needed to cultivate to successfully meet the challenges in the scholarly communications system. Mr. Faisal Mehmood from Clarivate Analytics gave introduction about the organization. It is worth-mentioning here that Clarivate Analytics, a global leader in providing global university rankings, journal impact factors and analytics has come to Pakistan for the first time. Professor Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad said that currently, Pakistan’s share in global higher education market of more 2300 million dollars is not remarkable. He said that this congregation may be a first step forward toward international recognition of Pakistani universities and research. Later, experts from Clarivate Analytics, Dr. Ayman Akil and Dr. Walid Hasaan gave their talks on quality and performance in research to internationalize the body of scholarly publishing in Pakistan and development of effective approaches for supporting boost in the international ranking of Pakistani research organizations and universities respectively. They explained possible best practices for Pakistani higher education universities / journals / research organizations to attain better international ranking and transform research ecosystem of the country. Later, Dr. Tayyab Husnain presented souvenirs among speakers and guests.
