1st Day of Sarir-e Khama Conference and Workshop at the College of Art and Design


The second chapter of ‘Sarir-e Khama; the Art of the Pen’, an international conference on calligraphy, along with an exhibition of Calligraphic Art, kicked off today on 8th of March, 2022 at the College of Art and Design, University of the Punjab, Lahore, at the prestigious and historic Senate Hall of the Varsity. Almost fifty (50) students, teachers, calligraphers and lovers of this genre attended this workshop, which was conducted by international and local calligraphers.
Mr. Shahzad Nawaz, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Culture, Arts and Related Communications, was the Chief Guest at the opening ceremony, that was to be chaired by the worthy Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar. College Principal Prof. Dr. Sumera Jawad and Chief Convener Sarir-e Khama Prof. Dr. Anis Siddiqi shared details of the the first session with welcoming address and keynotes.
Dr. Naela Aamir presented an overview of the last Sarir-e Khama Conference that was held in 2012. Ex-principal and founder of the first Sarir-e Khama Conference, Dr. Rahat Naveed Masud presented a retroscopic journey of the Conference with her articulated speech.
Dr. Ahmad Bilal shared his findings on the art of Calligraphy and Mr. Irfan Qureshi, the curator of Sarir-e Khama Calligraphy Exhibition, cast light on the issues and problems associated to the art of Calligraphy and the Urdu text.
Afterwards, Mr. Afzal Uddin Kalij informed about the various competition which have been holding since a decade. Lastly, the Chief Guest Mr. Shahzad Nawaz talked about the concerns and pondered over the delay the time gap between the two conference.
An exhibition of exclusive Calligraphy work has also been curated at the main hall of the College which has been visited by numerous art lovers, critics and dignitaries.
