Department of Plant Pathology, University of the Punjab organized a seminar on Environment Sustainability and Agriculture


On 27th May 2024, Department of Plant Pathology, University of the Punjab organized a seminar on Environment Sustainability and Agriculture. The objective was to create awareness among students and researchers regarding climate crises and pollution challenges in agriculture. Prof. Dr. Faiza Sharif, Director, Sustainable Development Study Centre, Government College University Lahore and Prof. Dr. Aisha Saleem Khan, Formans Christian College University Lahore was invited as guest speakers. Dr. Faiza addressed the emerging issues within Pakistan's agricultural system due to climate change and global warming, offering potential solutions and encouraging students to delve into these areas. Dr. Aisha shared her research findings from WWF-funded projects on phytoremediation, captivating the audience with intriguing data and plant illustrations. Guest of honor of the event, Prof. Dr. Shakeel Ahmad, Director of ORIC at Punjab University, commended the work of both scientists and stressed the importance of involving agricultural students in relevant research. Prof. Dr. Saleem Haider, former Dean Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, applauded the Department of Plant Pathology for organizing a seminar on such a crucial topic, highlighting how such platforms open up new research avenues for young minds. The department expressed its appreciation by presenting shields as token of gratitude to both guest speakers. Prof. Dr. Tehmina Anjum, Chairperson of the Department of Plant Pathology, extended her thanks to all participants and speakers for their contribution to the engaging seminar.
