PU library book club organizes lecture

LAHORE: (Thursday, May 14, 2026): Punjab University Library Book Club organized a thought-provoking literary session, bringing together faculty members, students, researchers, and book lovers to discuss contemporary literature and intellectual discourse. On this occasion, Chief Librarian Muhammad Asif Khan, Associate Professor from Institute of English Studies Dr. Shahzeb Khan, former chief librarian Dr. Muhammad Haroon Usmani, teachers, students and librarians were present. In his address, Dr. Shahzeb Khan shed light on the internationally acclaimed book ‘The Scent of Time’ by Byung-Chul Han. He highlighted the book’s philosophical exploration of modern society, time perception, and the growing culture of haste in the contemporary world. He emphasized the importance of reflection, contemplation, and meaningful engagement with life in an age dominated by speed and digital distractions. Dr. Muhammad Haroon Usmani shared his views on ‘Chhnal Aur Digar Afsanay’ by Iqbal Khursheed. He briefed on the collection of short stories, appreciating the author’s literary style and his depiction of social realities, human emotions, and cultural experiences. He underlined the significance of Urdu fiction in promoting critical thinking and preserving literary traditions. Muhammad Asif Khan, thanked the distinguished speakers for their valuable contributions and acknowledged the enthusiastic participation of the audience. He stated that such literary gatherings play an important role in promoting book culture, scholarly discussion, and creative engagement among students and researchers. He reaffirmed the Library’s commitment to organizing more academic and literary activities in the future.
