Students must learn to challenge the old work, PU VC


LAHORE: (Wednesday, November 15, 2023): Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood has said that to move forward, students must learn to challenge the old work so that alternative sources can be found. He was addressing the national conference on ‘Emerging Issues in Libraries & Information Management (EILIM)’ organized by Punjab University Institute of Information Management here on Wednesday. On this occasion, Director Institute of Information Management Prof Dr Nosheen Fatima Waraich, from University of Management Prof Dr Abdul Hameed, Professor of Information Science Amy VanScoy from University at Buffalo, New York, faculty members and a large number of students were present. In his address, Dr Khalid Mahmood said that many times in the Holy Quran, research and reflection have been emphasized for which we should adopt study habits. He said that keeping up with technology in the modern age is one of the major challenges. He said that the ability of students to ask questions and familiarity with their subject is essential. He congratulated the organizers for organizing the conference. Prof Dr Nosheen Fatima Waraich welcomed the distinguished guests and participants. She said that the purpose of organizing the conference was to enlighten the students with each other's experiences and research activities. She said that the Institute of Information Management will continue to play its role in the process of self-learning. Prof Dr Abdul Hameed said that everyone has to work together for the promotion of education in the country. He said that we have to understand that every human being is different from others. He said that in order to create a civilized society, we should work according to the needs of others. He said that the process of access should be made easier to solve the problems of the weak. In her detailed presentation, Amy VanScoy shed light on the various aspects of research. She highlighted uniqueness, differences, broad range of professional skills and different types of librarians. Later, the VC inaugurated a poster competition.
