Anti-Corruption Awareness Campaign observed at IAS-PU


Lahore: The students, staff and faculty members at Institute of Administrative Sciences (IAS), University of the Punjab observed an Anti-corruption day on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 as part of the University and National Accountability Bureau's campaign of the social evil.
Awareness among the students, staff and faculty was raised throughout the week by the faculty and students' society with the name of “Campus Buzz”. All members including the faculty and students shared their impressions on a special wall dedicated for this purpose and showed their commitment towards eradicating the social evil by making efforts on their part.
IAS students' societies especially Arts and Literature Society (ALS) and Troops Event Management Society put their efforts in preparing a comprehensive program as part of anti-corruption campaign. The event was presided over by Prof. Dr. Nasira Jabeen - Director IAS. Alongwith a large number of students, faculty and staff members including Prof. Dr. A.R. Jafri, Dr. Aamir Saeed, Mr. Tahir Gondal, Ms. Urooj Qamar, Ms. Ayesha Hanif, Ms. Madiha Waheed, Mr. Tayyeb Ali Khan, Mr. Adnan Hussain, Col. Muzaffar Ali, Ms. Rifat Afzal, Ms. Tashfeen Fatima and Ms. Sameen Zaki attended the event.
To begin with, Director IAS, Prof. Jabeen addressed the students on the observance of Anti-corruption campaign and the evils that corruption has caused at every level of Pakistani society. She shared with audience an alarming fact that Pakistan is the 34 th most corrupt country worldwide and energies of youth can play an important role in controlling the corruption. Prof. Jabeen emphasized that we can fight against this endemic evil through rule of law, merit, a fair system of accountability and sincere will. She encouraged all those who pledged to fight against the poison of corruption eating up the roots of our nation. She admired the university and the students' role towards it.
Director's comprehensive address was followed by Students' Speeches Competition on the theme of: “Corruption, a Social Evil”. It was astounding to listen to the sensational speeches by the young students, leaders of tomorrow on the severe issues like deception, fraudulence, misconduct and crimes. A series of skits were presented by the dramatic society to showcase various types of corruption we encounter at public and private sector and on the institutional and personal level.
Students also shared some pieces of poetry on the issue. An implicit way of representing the concerns against the menace of corruption appeared in the Paintings and Posters contest among students. All performances portrayed positive moral messages against corruption and administered fervor in all participants. Towards the end, participants were awarded with certificates and prizes were given to the competition winners by the worthy guests and faculty members. Director IAS, Prof. Dr. Nasira Jabeen admired the whole initiative and the efforts made by the students under the supervision of Ms. Urooj Qamar, Ms. Sameen Zaki and other faculty members.
