Punjab University improves QS ranking by subject - Minister, faculty members congratulate VC

LAHORE: (Wednesday, March 4, 2020): Punjab University has achieved another milestone by improving its subject-wise ranking recently released by QS World University Ranking, one of the most prestigious institutions to rank universities across the globe. According to the new ranking, PU has retained its position in Agriculture and Forestry subjects and remained among 251 to 300 top universities while significantly improved its position in the subjects of Physics and Astronomy and has been ranked among top 451-500 universities of the world. In 2019, PU was ranked among top 501 to 550 universities of the world in Physics and Astronomy. Moreover, Punjab University has been ranked for the first time in two subjects i.e. business & management studies and Biological Sciences and PU had got position among top 451-500 and 501-550 universities respectively. PU also retained its position in chemistry and remained among top 501-550 universities. Punjab Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Hummayun Sarfraz has congratulated PU Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad on this achievement. Talking to media here on Wednesday, the minister said that Punjab University and other universities in Punjab would improve their international ranking further. He said that the policies of the PU vice chancellor were bringing fruit and he really deserved appreciation for bringing good news for Pakistan. He said that other universities should also get inspiration from this achievement and the government would extend full support in this regard. PU Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad Akhtar has applauded deans, heads of departments, faculty, staff and students for this landmark achievement. He especially appreciated the efforts of the University Ranking Committee headed by Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood to achieve this goal. He said that the university administration was focusing on good governance, restoration of PU’s academic excellence and research with socio-economic impact. He said that the university had also regulated its all statutory bodies for smooth functioning of university affairs as per law. Prof Niaz has vowed to put all resources and efforts to enhance the quality of research and teaching in the university. He said that PU administration was promoting research culture by encouraging teachers and students and due to these efforts; PU would hit new mark in the next QS ranking. Meanwhile, PU Academic Staff Association President Prof Dr Mumtaz Anwar Chaudhry and Secretary Javed Sami had congratulated PU VC, administration, faculty members and students on this good news. They said that the administration was funding research projects that was one of the main factors for improvement in PU ranking.
