MMG, PU organized a comprehensive lecture on "Smog"

Department of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics (MMG) organized lecture on Smog here on Tuesday at lecture hall of the Department. Chairperson Dr. Anjum Nasim Sabri introduced Prof. Dr. Razi Abbas Shamsi. He is professor emeritus at Department of Botany, University of the Punjab and he served MMG as visiting professor. Chairperson Department of MMG, faculty members, students were present on the occasion.
Prof. Shamsi delivered a comprehensive lecture titled as “SMOG, NATURE, ORIGIN AND IMPACT”. He covered recent environmental issues that we are facing here i.e. smog. He covered almost all aspects related to smog such as causes/sources, nature of the smog, Thermal Inversion and Smog Formation, Smog Pollutants: Characteristics & Health Effects, Natural Status of Air Pollutants and their Removal from the Atmosphere, Smog related Respiratory Diseases and Natural Defence Mechanism, Smog: General Adverse Effects, Precautionary Measures.
He said that Smog is a weather condition where air pollutants are trapped near earth surface with no release due to cold high pressure in the upper atmosphere making it difficult for people to breathe and become victim of respiratory diseases. He discussed natural and anthropogenic activities, smog formation, health effects and respiratory diseases induced by smog. He further discussed general adverse effects and precautionary measures to deal with this issue.
