LAHORE: (Friday, February 28, 2020): The Punjab University administration has said that it was strange that recently the university was ranked among the top 301 to 350 universities of the emerging economies and just after a week, a clash has been erupted among student organizations. It said that whenever Punjab University’s ranking improved, some elements try to portray a specific image about the university. The university administration held an emergency press conference to give details of Friday’s incidents. PU Registrar Dr Muhammad Khalid Khan, Resident Officer 1 Col Retired Omer Khalid, Chief Security Officer Col (r) Ubaid Masood and other official were present on the occasion. |
Talking to the media, Dr Khalid Khan said that around 12:45pm, a quarrel erupted among the activists of Pashtun Educational Development Movement (PEDM) and Islami Jamiat Talaba after some discussion near Sociology Department in which activists from both sides received injuries. After receiving information, the university security staff reached the spot instantly and also sent an alert to the police because it was estimated that there might be another quarrel among the students soon. He said that meanwhile, the university received information that PEDM and Punjabi Council activists were beating some students near Admin Block’s mosque. He said that the university security staff reached the spot instantly and rescued the students to avoid any clash among student organizations further. However, he said, Punjabi Council and PEDM activists attacked the university guards and injured six security guards. He said that the university security guards made all out efforts to avoid any serious clash among student organizations and they got success. He said that the university administration would take strict action against the students involved in the incident while request for registration of FIR had been sent to the police in which 20 unknown and four persons i.e. Ansar Abbas, Shazeb Arif Warraich, Usama Butt and Imran had been nominated. The administration also condemned attack on security guards and chief security officer by the students. |
