Admissions for Bachelor and Master of Science (BS, M.Sc.) degree programs are under way in nation's most prestigious Information Technology institute, Punjab University College of Information Technology (PUCIT), University of the Punjab since last Friday. For almost a decade, PUCIT has been observing a continuous increase in the number of applicants under the visionary and dynamic leadership of the college administration and well-versed, dedicated, and professional staff. A recent survey of PUCIT graduates from all degree programs has revealed important information about college graduates. Based on this survey 85% of graduates are employed in 394 companies including technology giants like Microsoft, Facebook, and IBM, 7% run their own businesses including their own 46 technology companies, 5% currently pursuing higher education, 3% are unemployed (roughly half by choice). Overall 33% pursued (or are currently pursuing) higher education while 22% are currently residing in foreign countries (mostly in USA, England, Canada, Germany, Sweden, UAE, Saudi Arabia, etc.). According to another survey conducted last year, college graduates form around 30% of the IT workforce in the Lahore IT industry. On average, starting salary of a fresh graduate is around 35,000 Pakistani Rupees which roughly increases fifty percent in first year of job and becomes almost double within two years.

Considering the national and international demand of IT experts, PUCIT almost doubled its intake three years ago by increasing the number of seats from 460 to around 800 in its various degree programs. To make admission process more convenient, transparent and speedy, PUCIT has been offering online admission applications to prospective candidates for the past several years. Anyone from anywhere can access the online application portal of the college, submit his/her credentials, take a print of application form, affix pictures and copies of required documents, attach bank draft, and send admission application via any postal service at the college address. Besides online application submission, for those who cannot apply online, the college provides a well-organized facility and staff guidance to apply online at the college premises. Last year around 18,000 applicants applied for admission in different study programs that the college offers. This number is expected to increase this year. Last date for application reception at the college by-hand or via postal service is September 19, 2015 during office hours.

Admitted student will be informed via an automatic subsystem of the admission portal. Lists of admitted students are also placed at the college website as well as PUCIT's Facebook page. Once admitted in the college, students deal with a single sign in Campus Management System (CMS) for all most all student services. The system was deployed at the college more than five years ago. PUCIT's transparent online business processes from admission to graduation can be adopted by public sector institutions of higher learning.
