LAHORE: (Thursday, February 13, 2014): A four-member delegation of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) headed by Director CERN Dr Sergio Bertolucci visited Punjab University and held a meeting with Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, physics scholars and other professors of PU. The other members of the delegation included CERN Head of International Relations Dr Rudiger Voss, Head of Training, Science and Space Travel Mr Claude Crottaz, and Scientific Secretary Ms. Margaret Susan Foffano. Manager CERN Secretariat of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) Dr Sohail Ahmad Janjua, Member Science PAEC Dr Badar Suleman and Dr Hafeez Hoorani while from Punjab University Dean faculty of Science Prof Dr Khawaja Haris Rashid, Prof emeritus Dr Muhammad Saleem, Dr Bilal Masud, Prof Dr Shahzad Naseem, Chairman Department of Physics Prof Dr Muhammad Azhar Iqbal, Prof Dr Shaukat Ali, Chairman Department of Space Science Prof Dr Muhammad Ali, Chairman Department of Mathematics Prof Dr Muhammad Sharif, Prof Dr Khalid Latif Mir, Principal PUCIT Prof Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar and Director External Linkages Dr Maria Maldonado were also present. Addressing on this occasion the CERN delegation said there was a vast scope for PU young faculty and students and their centre and showed their concern to expand collaboration with the Punjab University in physics research. Dr Mujahid Kamran appreciated their gesture and send they would continue sending their research scholars to the CERN. The meeting also discussed various issues of mutual interest and the Vice Chancellor briefed the delegation regarding the progress of the university. Earlier, a detailed presentation was given to the delegation regarding research promotion acitivities in the varsity. Later, PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran, faculty members and delegation visited Main Library and different departments of where the delegation praised the facilities being provided to faculty members and students.
