PU CSAS organizes seminar

LAHORE: (Friday, May 03, 2013): Punjab University Centre for South Asian Studies (CSAS) and Department of Political Science organized a seminar on “Muslim World: Relations with China and West” at seminar hall on Friday. Danish Ambassador Ole E Moesby was the chief guest while Danish Scholar Seven Burmester threw light on the top. Director CSAS & Chairperson Department of Political Science Prof Dr Umbreen Javed, faculty members and M. Phil/PhD scholars attended the seminar. Seven Burmester threw light on economic development & culture and said culture consisted of language, history and values. Comparing English, Chinese and Arabic languages, he said that it was easy to learn English language and even Arabic language which changed according to speaking style but the case of Chinese language was different that it stressed upon meanings rather than sound. He said that so far as the history of Europe was concerned it preceded smoothly while history of China observed many ups and downs. He said the Muslims history, in spite of its glorious eras, had also entangled in complications. He empathized on two things particularly of Pakistan; education and population control. He said Pakistan had not controlled its population successfully as China and the West had done. He pointed to the growing extremism and terrorism in Pakistan which needed to be addressed.
