PU hostels open for research, exam students

PU hostels open for research, exam students

LAHORE: (Tuesday, June 30, 2026): Punjab University Spokesperson has clarified that the university hostels have not been completely closed; students with academic and research requirements have been accommodated in designated hostels. He said that PhD researchers in their final semester have been allowed to stay in the hostels, while MPhil students in their final semester are also residing there due to academic necessities. He added that these arrangements have been made to ensure the continuity of academic activities. Students appearing in examinations have also been provided hostel accommodation during the vacation period. He stated that the phased closure of hostels has been carried out solely to meet administrative, maintenance, and security requirements. The spokesperson said that a large number of students spend the vacation period at their homes, assisting their parents, participating in community service, enrolling in online courses, undertaking online work, or completing internships. He maintained that a few individuals demanding the immediate reopening of all hostels are either facing disciplinary proceedings or have previously been subjected to disciplinary action. According to the spokesperson, despite the absence of regular academic activities, the demand for hostel accommodation is being raised by those who wish to stay in Lahore for purposes other than education. He said that the current administration has taken effective measures to ensure transparency, merit, and discipline in the hostel system. He concluded by saying that university hostels are meant for the academic session, and once the academic session ends, there is no justification for students to continue residing in the hostels.
